Because of this, I'd recommend running Grifts until you get to about 60% chance on the Gems you're using for your build, then switching back to Rifts until you're ready for Augmenting Ancient pieces of your build. Each chance to upgrade a gem has to be consumed before you close the Grift altogether you can't build up these Upgrade Charges(if you will) for future use. Long Story short, it sounds like you're running Greater Rifts with a level very close or below the Rank of your Legendary Gem(s). If a gem's level is higher than that of the Greater Rift's difficulty level, then the chances of a successful upgrading are cut in half for every rank (30%, 15%, 7.5%, 3.75%, etc), and become 0% when the difference reaches 7 ranks." - Diablo Wikia When the differences between the rift and gem reach below 10, the chance of successful upgrading decreases, first to 90% (9 ranks above), then 80% (8 ranks above), 70% (7 ranks above) and 60% (0-6 ranks above). "A gem's chance to upgrade will be guaranteed if the difficulty level of the rift is at least 10 greater than the rank of the gem. I would love to get some knowledge dropped on me, and to provide some support in Rifting if you'll have me.īTW #2 - I'm also struggling to grasp the new chat system, but I'm trying! I'm having a total blast playing, but I'm a little concerned that I might be wasting resources or chances for upgrades due to my lack of knowledge. I want to some reading and research to expand my knowledge, but it sometimes feels like trying to read a book on particle physics while still in diapers! SO many numbers and acronyms. I see that the % chance of success shrinks after a couple of successes, but can these be saved if I don't use them? In the meantime, I've been running Rifts and Greater Rifts Act by Act, and upgrading the Gems I receive until I fail/run out of upgrades. The learning curve on crafting and gear upgrades right now feels like trying to see the top of the sky! I know that's just lack of experience, and that eventually I'll actually understand what some of the posts on this forum are about! Only been playing D3 for about three weeks.
